Mr. Pignon (Auteuil) is a dull, nerdy accountant for a plastics factory (one of its biggest product lines is condoms). Desperate when he is laid off and worried about being able to keep up alimony payments to his icy ex-wife and distant teenaged son, he takes a neighbor's advice to spread the rumor that he is gay, in the hope that the company will keep him on for fear of a discrimination suit. It works! But a burly, bigoted coworker (Depardieu) starts to behave very strangely around him, as do female colleagues who "always knew," and then even the big bosses: a scene where he is forced to represent the company in a Gay Pride march in a condom hat below a huge pink penis balloon is painfully funny. Mistaken for a pedophile, he is assaulted by other coworkers, and just about everything that could go wrong, does. A refreshingly delightful French comedy.
