Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Colossus of Rhodes

THE COLOSSUS OF RHODES is the first movie entirely directed by Sergio Leone in 1961.

It's a peplum set in the island of Rhodes. King Serse has just been finished constructing the enormous statue of Apollo that is guarding Rhodes's harbor. Serse would like to sign an economical treaty with Phoenicians, the enemies of the Greeks. But Thar, his counsellor, is secretly planning to overthrow him by using the same Phoenicians. Darios, an Athenian general on holiday in the island, helps the local rebellion lead by Peliocles, to withstand the tyranny of Serse and Thar. In the middle of the final fight between the different factions, a terrible eartquake happens. Will this disaster destroy the Colossus of Rhodes ?

One of the best italian peplums ever shot. Recommended.
