Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Core

After the earth's core stops spinning the planet is in trouble.

While helping to free the stuck craft, one of the pilots is killed and one of the scientists is killed when the ship is damaged.
The part of the ship that's damaged is the part that launches the bombs.
The ship's creator and one of the other scientists are forced to give their lives to eject pods and detonate themselves along with the bombs.
The plan works and the explosions force the core to resume spinning, saving the planet.
The remaining pilot and scientists use the explosion to help burrow though the planet and break through at the bottom of the sea.

Odd things are happening around the world. A huge flock of pigeons suddenly goes berserk smashing through windows and causing traffic accidents. A space shuttle suddenly loses its navigation system. Freak lightning storms are knocking down concrete buildings. Professor Josh Keyes realizes that the phenomena are being caused by problems with the earth's electromagnetic field. This field is normally in place because of the earth's inner magnetic core. That core has suddenly stopped flowing. How and why is not important, but how to get it going again--otherwise more and more natural phenomena will increasingly cause more disasters "top side." Josh Keyes assembles a select group of scientists and engineers to build and pilot a special machine built to withstand extreme temperatures and pressures to journey to the earth's core and set off a nuclear detonation to start the rotation of the earth's core once again. Will the plan work?

People dropping dead in New York, birds attacking tourists in London, an American shuttle crew missing their landing spot, strange sky phenomena entertaining millions - all of these clues lead Dr. Josh Keyes (Aaron Eckhart) to believe that the core of the Earth has stopped rotating. After his research is confirmed by the world's leading scientist, Dr. Conrad Zimsky (Stanley Tucci), Dr. Keyes finds himself spearheading a plan to take an amazing machine down to the center of the Earth and get the core rotating again. While preparing for the project, he meets Rebecca Childs (Hilary Swank), who desperately wants to prove herself as a pilot. Of course, once they get underneath the crust of the earth, it is anyone's guess as to what will happen and if they will succeed in saving all of humanity...

The Core is a typical science fiction/action movie in that it is built off of some Hollywood formula that they have been using for years to make some quick and easy money off of the movie going public without, in fact, doing anything new or particularly interesting. I wouldn't say that it is a bad movie, but neither would I say that it is particularly good. I agree with some other reviewers in that the first part of the movie is quite good and raises your hopes that perhaps this movie is better than you thought and then they actually go on the mission to save the earth and it is cheeseball city down there. It is way too easy to figure out who is going to die and how and figure out what is going to happen, which was disappointing, but that it why it is a 3 star movie and not anything higher!

A scientist discovers that the core of the Earth has stopped spinning and in less than a year the world will be destroyed. They find out that the government accidently doomed the planet by creating a technology that sets off earthquakes in enemy territories. They are able to find a ship that can journey to the center of the Earth, so 6 people head to the core to get it back in rotation.
