A private investigator who just got out of prison falls in love with his secretary (Lucille Ball) and finds out he's being "tailed." He thinks it's his former business partner who had him put in jail, but it's really the husband of the former business partner's lover who wants the man to kill the former partner for revenge. The husband has the lover killed and makes it look like the main character did it, and the investigator and his secretary have to find out who really did it and prove it to the police.
