Napoleon Bonaparte is exiled on the island of St. Helena. He hatches a plan to retake his throne. While Eugene Lenormand, a commoner who looks like him, acts as his impostor on the island, Napoleon sneaks into Paris to reclaim his throne. However, Napoleon runs into complications and has trouble adjusting to a common life. He ends up falling in love with a common widower. Straying from the plan, Lenormand decides to keep his new life of privilege permanently by refusing to reveal that his is an impostor. Unfortunately for Napoleon, before he can work things out, Lenormand dies and everyone is convinced that Napoleon is dead. How can Napoleon convince anyone that he is the real Bonaparte and reclaim his throne?
