Laura Wingfield (Wyman) is a painfully shy young woman who is sheltered by her mother (Lawrence). One day, her brother, Tom, (Kennedy) brings home a friend (Douglas) who shows some interest in Laura, but can Laura leave behind the only place that she's known the comforting shelter of her home and her collection of delicate glass animals -- for a relationship with a real man?
