'The Last Samurai' is a movie featuring Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise), a young, cocky American war hero, who is captured by Japanese samurai warriors. Initially, Algren founght for the national American army and was very skilled with firearms. Originally Algren was hired by the Japanese government to help overthrow the samurai. In the film, Algren comes across a unique kind of bravery, the bravery of the samurai. The movie is set in the late 1800's and shows how the Japanese Fuedal System changed when Emperor Meiji took over.

When Algren is captured by the samurai he is filled with resentment, but over time the captians views change. As more tension arises between the Japanese government and the samurai, Nathan Algren must choose which side to fight for.

After the civil war, a Captain is having a hard time dealing with the terrible things he did in the war.
He takes a job going to Japan to train an army to fight an army of samurais.
During the first battle the captain is captured and taken back to the samurai camp in the mountains.
The captain grows to like the samurais way of life. He trains with them and helps them fight off a small attack on their village.
When the snow melts, the captain is free to leave.
The samurai leader is captured by the emperor's guards.
The captain helps rescue the samurai and returns to their village with him. He helps them prepare for the attack by the army.
The 500 samurai warriors are able to hold off the first wave of the 2000 soldiers. The samurais kill most of the soldiers before being cut down by superior weapons.
The samurai leader is wounded and stabs himself.
The captain is badly wounded but he survives. He is allowed his freedom by the emperor and he returns to the samurai village.
