Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Long Hot Summer

Don Johnson plays a drifter, who shows up at a small southern town. He does odd jobs around town but his reputation soon haunts him. It seems he has been known to set fires, followed soon by a forced exodus from town. He becomes interested in the daughter (Judith Ivey) of one of the wealthiest plantation owners. She is wary because of his reputation; her father (Jason Robards) is charmed with his arrogance and good looks. It is only a matter of time before he wears her down--and another fire burns down a town building.
