The Love Bug Movie Review Summary

Actors: Dean Jones, Michele Lee, David Tomlinson, Buddy Hackett, Joe Flynn

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Love Bug

One of the most successful and charming of the Disney live-action comedies, this 1968 movie tells the story of a race car driver who becomes a champion with a Volkswagen Beetle that has a mind and heart of its own. (Although mostly optimistic and cheeky, the car will even threaten suicide to get its owner to see the light and go for the gold.) Jones plays driver Jim Douglas with just the right mixture of heroic charm and annoying cockiness to stand up well against Tomlinson's juicy villain role as Peter Thorndyke, the business exec and rival driver who is perfectly willing to cheat to win. Hackett is Douglas's open-minded street philosopher friend, Flynn (Capt. Binghamton on TV's "McHale's Navy") is Thorndyke's bumbling partner in crime, and Michele Lee the leggy love interest. "The Love Bug" spawned three lesser sequels and a 1997 made-for-TV version.
