Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Machinist

The Machinist stars Christian Bale as Trevor Reznik, an emaciated industrial worker who battles with his sanity. Trevor meets Ivan one morning while taking a break to smoke a cigarette. Ivan tells Trevor he is working the swing shift but Trevor has never seen the man there. The next day a co-worker by the name of Miller (Michael Ironside) asks Trevor for some help with a machine. Trevor gets distracted by Ivan and bumps into the start button of the machine. Miller gets his sleeve caught and ultimately loses his arm in the accident. The company investigates the accident and trevor tells him he was distracted by the swing shift worker Ivan. They claim that Ivan doesnt exist. Even his co-workers wonder about him and his appearance. While this is happening Trevor is getting more involved with a prostite named Stevie (Jennifer Jason Leigh) who he is spending more time with off the clock. Trevor is also seeing a waitress named Marie (Aitana Sanchez-Gijon) for pie and coffee everynight. But everytime he goes for pie the clock only ticks one second.

Trevor is losing his mind and he can't figure anything out. He meets up with Ivan for drinks at a bar and finds a picture of Ivan with a co-worker holding a fish. Trevor feels like this proves Ivan is real. He then goes to work and sees Miller and Trevor apologizes for the accident. Then as he is working on a machine his sleeve gets stuck and he almost loses an arm. He gets it out intact but accuses everyone there for sabotaging him. They all think he is crazy. Trevor digs for the picture but it isn't in his wallet. This sets him further down the slope of madness in which he confronts Stevie and Miller for setting him up. Now he makes finding Ivan his quest. And we follow Trevor in his desperate attempts to track down Ivan, only to find out that Ivan is a figment of his imagination.
