Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Messengers

A family experiences strange things at their new farmhouse inhabited by the spirits who were murdered there. Jess and her family move from Chicago to the farmlands of the midwest to run a sunflower farm and to escape their toxic city life. Unknown to them, their house was the site of a mass murder, of a mom, a teenage daughter, and a young son. The move to the country is a new start for all of them since they are trying to get over a car accident that involved Jess and her younger brother Ben, the result of which is Ben's refusal to talk from the trauma. Jess is given a hard time by her parents since the accident was her fault so she's considered an irresponsible teen.

When Jess starts to experience weird things in the new house, her parents naturally do not believe her. She feels a presence in the basement, which is where the teenage daughter was killed. A stain on the wall is also getting bigger and bigger. Ben also sees things but keeps quiet. Meanwhile, as their parents go about their normal chores around the farm, an odd gathering of crows have turned up outside.

One day, a drifter John shows up, and Roy, Jess' dad, offers him work since he seems to know enough about sunflower farming and seems like a nice enough guy. When Jess has an unsettling paranormal experience that actually leaves marks on her harm, everyone around her is still skeptical and assume that she did it to herself. On a trip into town, Jess happens upon news clippings with John on them. He is the father of the murdered family.

Back at the house, John suffers a mental breakdown, and shifts into his neurotic and violent self. He runs after Jess' mom and Ben, chasing after them with an axe. Jess returns and finds her mom and brother hiding. Roy arrives and gets stabbed. The floor creates a black oozing goo-- the angry and tormented spirits of John's family. It grabs hold of John, sucking him into the abyss.
Best part of story, including ending: Because of the twist and revelation of John's true identity.

Best scene in story: When Jess has a creepy experience in the cupboard, the hiding place of the young boy who got murdered.

Opinion about the main character: Jess redeems herself from her past transgressions by saving her family from John.
