Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Mist

In a small town in Maine, David (Thomas Jane) and his young son Billy go to the supermarket in the midst of a thunderstorm that is approaching. On the way there, they oddly notice many military trucks driving towards the nearby base. At the market, many townspeople are stocking up on supplies, and strangely, a thick mist starts to surround the outside. When a bloodied man runs into the store claiming he was attacked by some "thing," people panic. Some rush out to go back to their cars, and with the others inside unable to see anything, they hear terrifying screams. They put the supermarket on lockdown, knowing they will be stuck there for awhile. When David and a group of others try to fix the generator exhaust, requiring someone to go outside, they are attacked by lashing tentacles. One of them is grabbed and dragged outside, but David chops off part of the creature. Another group, led by an arrogant lawyer Brent, decide to leave the supermarket. The remaining people inside still have no visibility, until a severed body appears before their eyes. Later huge insects land on the windows, pursued by strange looking birds who come crashing into the store. Fighting them off, some people get injured, and one dies. To get medicine in the nearby pharmacy outside, David and some people go out, and see a military soldier covered in sores, up on a giant web. He raves that it is all the military's fault. When spiders chase them, they run back to the store. They later learn from a soldier that the military base has been experimenting with portals to another dimension, thus the infiltration of strange creatures. Hearing this, a leader of another group at the store, Ms. Darmody, a religious fanatic, claims that retribution must be brought on the soldier and he should be sacrificed. He is stabbed by an the angry mob and thrown outside. David leaves the store with his son and three other people, but when Darmody gets in his way, chaos breaks out, and he shoots her. They travel on the road for hours and see many people dead. They run out of gas. Hopeless, and with four bullets left, they are resigned to killing themselves, except for David, who will just die another way. When the three are dead, David goes out of the car, a raving madman, taunting any monster to come get him, when a scourge of military start to arrive. His son is dead, seconds from being rescued, and David is beyond words.

Best part of story, including ending: It shows human nature at its most honorable and ugly behavior during times of crisis.

Best scene in story: When a gigantic monster, possibly as high as a building, strides outside of David's car.

Opinion about the main character: David will protect his son at all costs, even it means shooting him to save him from an uncertain brutal death in the hands of a creature.
