A band of Irish coal miners in Western Pennsylvania revolt against restraint toward Company and Government control. After a series of deadly sabbotage attacks in the coal mines, the band, calling themselves The Molly Maguires, plot to recruit an outsider (James McKenna/Richard Harris), to help in their plight to overcome "injustice." McKenna, is an undercover detective who poses as a local to work in the mines for the Company, as well as to capture the band of Maguires who sabotage the mines. In conclusion, McKenna completes his task and the Maguires are caught during their last murdeous mission. The Maguires stand trial, with McKenna as a chief witness, henceforth, a guilty verdict is handed down and the Maguires are sentenced to death by hanging.
