With her beauty and refinement, Joanna makes a definite impression on Leiningen, especially as she wears only a negligee to their first meeting! They are, after all, already married by proxy. But she seems too perfect and out of place in his primitive world, and he grows suspicious. He prods her about her past and discovers that she has been married before. The proud Leiningen refuses to have anything secondhand and decides to have the marriage annulled. But before he can send Joanna back to the States, he learns that "Marabunta," soldier ants that eat everything in their path, are headed toward his plantation.
As the killer ants trap Leiningen and Joanna together, it is Joanna's courage that wins Leiningen's admiration and ultimately his heart, but how can their newfound love survive the deadly Marabunta?
