THE NINTH CONFIGURATION is a film written, produced and directed by William Peter Blatty in 1980.
Somewhere on the northeast coast of the U.S.A., there is a strange castle where soldiers who've been active in Vietnam are treated for mental disorders. Col. Vincent Kane has just been named new commanding officer of this castle. Kane is a psychiatrist who'll try soft psychological methods with the patients. One of the most affected men is Capt. Billy Cutshaw, is an astronaut who has refused to go to the moon at the last minute.
Col. Vincent Kane suffers from recurring nightmares and is actually not a psychiatrist after all. He's in fact "Killer Kane", a bloodthirsty marine suffering from a nervous breakdown. While in Vietnam, he was assigned by mistake to this castle. Kane has forgotten his real identity, is persuaded to be a psychiatrist and wants to help people around him.
