This is a zombie story about individuals that are brought back from turning and have to live the healthy society in persecution and discrimination. This is a story about Kate who is doctor that works on seeking a new medication for the returned. Years previously there as a zombie virus that wiped out millions but the ones who were treated earlier got a temporary solution in the form of a drug that has to be taken daily to repress the infection. Kate's husband who is a talented guitar player, is one of the returned. As such, she keeps this side of her life away from the knowledge of her superiors at work because it would be a conflict of interest and openly defends the drug supply continuation to the appropriate authorities. However, the supply of drugs is declining but there is research being done by her department to create a synthetic more permanent solution. As things worsen in the world by violence and protest as people openly persecute the returned; she and her husband seek refuge with a supply of drugs she got under the counter at their friends in a remote location. Their friends who are his friend from school and his wife graciously host them. However, things are not as they seem and their “close” friends steal their drugs as the wife is a returned individual and leave them with one dose.

Things get very hectic as it means that they only have 24 hours to get other drugs or get a lasting solution before Kate's husband turns. Kate goes back to work and pleads for more drugs explaining everything that has been going on to her boss. He is sympathetic and lets her have some of the last supplies. However, on her way out, she is intercepted by a desperate individual wanting the drugs for his own family. After a long struggle, the drugs wind up falling and breaking the casing thus becoming non-viable. Kate is heartbroken and returns to her husband who has chained himself by this time. Rather than waiting to turn he ends his life with Kate's help. The very same day, news breaks that a permanent solution for the virus has been found , meaning Kate's husband died in vain. She embarks on a revenge plot to the end which will see her track down the friends that caused her to murder her husband.
Best part of story, including ending:
I liked the story because it was not the typical zombie plot of where people are the minority species trying to survive.
Best scene in story:
I liked the scene at the end when Kate, as seen planning and tracking down the whereabouts of the people who caused her husband to die.
Opinion about the main character:
Kate is sometimes portrayed as weak though it is not her nature. Her fierce nature is only seen in the end when she plots revenge against her betrayers.
