A journalist encounters the terrifying ghost from her past and must decide how to stop it. Rachel and Aidan are a mother and son who were haunted by the ghost of a little girl Samara a few years ago. The two have relocated to a new city to forget the incident. Samara is a girl that appears in a cursed videotape. Whoever watches the tape dies 7 days later. When a video-related death occurs on a teen, Rachel is certain that Samara is behind it. Samara terrorizes Rachel and Aidan, and puts Aidan in a sick state. At the hospital, Samara kills Aidan's doctor. Fearing for their lives, Rachel hunts down Samara's biological mother who tells her that to release Samara's hold on Aidan, he must be drowned, like Samara was in the well. At this point, Aidan is fully-possessed by Samara and acts like a zombie. Rachel performs an exorcism, simulating a near-drowning episode in the rub for Aidan, and at the last minute, Samara leaves him. Samara however isn't through with Rachel since she wants her as her new mother. For Aidan's sake, Rachel lets herself be taken by Samara.

Best part of story, including ending:
Compared to the first Ring, this wasn't as impactful since the first movie had a more mysterious backstory. The first installment kept you on your toes re: the reason for Samara's murder, this one was more sappy and was more about Rachel and Aidan's relationship.
Best scene in story:
When Rachel is back in the well, doomed to be with her child corpse.
Opinion about the main character:
Rachel's sacrifice as a loving mother was selfish, however she could've avoided such trouble if she didn't recopy that tape in the first movie.
