Two couples, Jeff and Amy, Eric and Stacy are in Mexico on holiday. They meet a fellow tourist Matthias who asks them to join him to go to these Mayan ruins in the jungle to look for his brother who befriended an archaeologist who worked at the site. Near the ruins, they encounter violent locals, who seem intent on prohibiting them from reaching the site, so the group runs up the ruins and are stuck there. The villagers have set up camp in the perimeter of the temple, intent on killing them if they leave. They hear a cellphone ringing down in the temple, and Matthias goes down and falls. Stacy and Amy rescue Matthias who is now paralyzed. The girls also discover the bodies of the missing people covered in vines. When they awaken the next morning, vines have dug into the flesh of Matthias and Stacy. Matthias' legs are amputated, and he later dies because the vines have gone too deep into his body. Stacy is going mad, and constantly picks at her wounds to get the vines out. In her madness, she kills Eric. Jeff descends the temple with Amy pretending to be dead in his arms. The villagers shoot Jeff, and Amy runs into the jungle and drives off in their jeep.

Best part of story, including ending:
It's a terrifying plot of a holiday gone terribly bizarre and wrong.
Best scene in story:
When the girls realize that the vines are "alive" and are mimicking the sound of the cell phone.
Opinion about the main character:
I think the group was too gung-ho about seeing the ruins, which I find kind of thoughtless.
