Leonida Bottacin, the owner of an important vineyard, has a heart attack during its daily visit to the cemetery to flower the grave of his wife. He is brought back at his place unconscious and his heirs, his two nephews and their respective wives, impatiently await the verdict of the family practitioner. When they are told that their uncle has only 36 hours to live, Benito Varotto, one of the nephews, hurries to contact Mr Kitch, an American financier eager to purchase shares of the family vineyard.
One week later, the uncle is still alive. Benito decides to engage Anna, an alluring nurse, with the hope that Leonida yields to temptation and dies in the arms of Anna while making love to her. Unfortunately, causing the despair of the whole family, Anna takes pity on Leonida and spares him any excess that could endanger his life. While Anna and Leonida are falling in love with each other, Benito doesn't know what to invent anymore to make Mr Kitch wait for his uncle's death.
