Lou Jean Poplin helps her husband Clovis to escape from jail. Lou Jean's child has been placed with foster parents because of Lou and Clovis's former incarceration. Lou Jean wants to drive to Sugarland and reclaim their son. The couple kidnaps the patrolman Maxwell Slide and heads to Sugarland. Soon a long queue of police cars are closely following the kidnappers. The captain Harlin Tanner tries to negotiate with Lou Jean and Clovis but, they don't want to give up their idea of recovering their son.
