Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The War Of the Roses

Oliver and Barbara meet by chance, very romantically, and fall in love. They struggle through poverty while he builds his career as a lawyer, and she puts all her time into creating the perfect home. After eighteen years of marriage, things begin to come unglued. Instead of just divorcing, the couple declares war on each other over their perfect mansion.

Meet Barbara and Oliver Rose, a happily married couple living the American dream, a perfect marriage, loving children and of course a beautiful home. As we follow their marriage from beginning to end we begin to realize things aren't as perfect as they seem and they begin to slowly but surely drive each other over the edge of reason. Starting with subtle distance and progressing into an all out war winning becomes a matter of life and death. This film directed by the always brilliant Danny DeVito is a comedy with a moral, marriage is for suckers, or at least chandeliers are.
