Detailed plot synopsis reviews of They Made Me a Criminal

Johnny Bradley (John Garfield) is celebrating his World lightweight boxing championship belt, but in a bizarre turn of events, he is implicated in a murder in his apartment while he was drunk. When he reads the papers the next day, Johnny realizes that his car crashed while escaping from the police and the authorities, who found an unidentifiable body in the wreckage, had pronounced him dead. With a new identity of Jack Dorney, he flees to Arizona where he befriends a group of juvenile delinquents (The Dead End Kids in their first screen appearance) and finds a new love in the petite Peggy (Gloria Dickson), who manages a farm. However, as hard as he tries to stay away from the public eye, his boxing instincts lure him to a bounty fight with high stakes. Meanwhile, a nagging detective, Monty Phelan (Claude Raines), who never believed that Bradley was dead, is hot on his heels.
