After her lover leaves her, a nurse named Connie (Lynch) hires a male escort, Joe (Baldwin) to meet and begin a relationship with her lover, Ellen (Fenn) and then to break her heart so she will return to Connie's waiting arms. Joe thinks the job will be easy but upon meeting Ellen he is instantly attracted to her. As he begins to win her over, Joe realizes that he's falling in love with Ellen and suddenly begins to question the morality of what he's doing and also starts to re examine the direction his life is going in job wise. In the meantime a small time thug and acquaintance of both Joe's and his boss Mickey's(Pantoliano), has recently gotten out of prison and is out to get Joe because he believes that Joe is to blame for his being sent away in the first place.
