Cosmo Topper (Roland Young from the first “Topper” movie), his eccentric wife (Billie Burke) and their chauffeur Eddie (Eddie “Rochester” Anderson) get entangled in a murder mystery when the ghost of a plucky socialite named Gail Richards (Joan Blondell) asks Topper to help her find her murderer prompting fits of jealousy from Topper's eccentric wife, Clara. Incompetent policemen, young lovers, an illusive killer, dead bodies, creepy servants and even one adorable seal populate this cozy ghost-mystery spoof. Some will be offended by the character of Eddie the chauffeur who is a perfect specimen of stepen-fetch-it stereotype. In those days these were the only roles available to African-American actors like Eddie “Rochester” Anderson.
