|Plot Summary of Tsatsiki, Mum and the Policeman|
An 11-year-old Swedish boy daydreams of someday meeting his father, a Greek fisherman with whom his mother had a fling while on vacation and never told of her pregnancy. He calls himself Tsatsiki, the name of a common Greek yoghurt salad, and tries to teach himself Greek. His single mother sings in an unsuccessful rock band and has an on-again-off-again relationship with one of the guitarists. One day Tsatsiki meets a young cop who needs a place to stay and ends up renting a room in the house. Very sweet and funny in the spirit of "My Life as a Dog," the film has lots of lovely touches: how our heroes deal with the schoolyard bully, Tsatsiki's growing mutual interest with a cute female classmate, and the climactic return to Greece (the shooting moves from dark but shiny Stockholm to sunny Crete) to locate and meet his father. Utterly delightful.
