Valley of the Dolls is the story of three women who come to New York City to pursue their dreams. Beautiful Anne becomes a secretary to a high-powered entertainment lawyer and falls in love with him despite his womanizing past. Neely advances quickly from vaudeville to Broadway, and then pursues a wildly successful film career. Jennifer is a young femme fatale of Broadway, but as her lack of talent becomes evident, the only work she can get is posing nude in European films. The film spans about thirty years in the lives of each woman. They become tragically involved with drugs (a.k.a. "dolls"), using them to sleep at night and to lose weight, and each woman battles with her career, romances, and identity.
