The film “We Are Marshall” is set in Huntington (West Virginia) about a small town steeped in the rich tradition of college football. For years everyone including families, fans coaches and players have come together to applaud for Marshall University's team called “Thundering Herd”.

For Marshall University's football team and for the community football is considered its way of life rather then just a game. But one night an unfortunate event occur in the history of Marshall football in 1970 when the team was traveling back to Huntington after participating in a game in North Carolina, Marshall's football team and coaching staff around 75 of members were killed in a tragic plane crash.
Those who where left behind fight to cope with the shocking loss of their loved ones. The spirit of Marshall football along with its community was broken after the tragic incident but one young coach called Jack Lengyel was determined to rebuild the Marshall's football program from scratch and in the process he helped to heal the community as well. In the leadership of Jack Lengyel the grieving families found hope and strength.
