Actors: Robert De Niro, Sean Penn

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of We're No Angels

It is the 1930s and Ned and Jim are convicts at a maximum security prison in the mountains near Canada. When a dangerous prisoner escapes, they escape as well and are picked up by a wagon. They arrive at a small town near the Canadian border and are mistaken for priests. The two play along, biding their time to plan their escape across the river border. The two convicts humorously play into their priestly duties, mingling with the townsfolk. They meet a cynical poor woman Molly, who has a deaf-mute daughter. Ned becomes attracted to Molly and befriends her. Since the border is searched by the police because of the high-profile criminal who also escaped, the two men use the opportunity of a village procession that crosses the border as their means to leave. On the day of the march, Molly's daughter falls into the river, but Ned saves her. She then miraculously begins to speak again and believes it was the saintly statue and Ned that cured her. Ned asks Molly to run away with him, whereas Jim decides to join the monastery to become a real priest.

Best part of story, including ending: The two serious actors prove that they are also amazing comedians.

Best scene in story: When the priests would improvise what to do during religious duties.

Opinion about the main character: I guess it's a story of redemption which the two men found in the weirdest possible way.
