Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Where Angels Fear to Tread

Lila Herriton (Mirren), a veddy rich British widow, travels to Italy, where she falls for and marries an Italian dentist. The Herritons view this as a disastrous match, for not only is the dentist from a lower social stratum, but he's also quite a bit younger than his new wife. Lila, however, is supremely happy, for she is in the throes of passion and romance for the first time in her life.

When Lila dies after giving birth to a child, her relatives (including Davis as Lila's hard-nosed spinster sister)descend upon her spouse, eager to take charge of the baby. They expect Lila's husband to give up the baby without a fight, but they are in for a surprise.
