Written, produced and directed by Bae Yong-Kyun over a seven years period, this film, dealing with Zen and Buddhism, won the Golden Leopard of the 1989 Locarno International Film Festival.

In a remote Buddhist temple situated on the summit of a mountain live an old master, a younger monk and an orphan boy. The master tries to show "the way" to his pupil who still wonders whether he was right or not to leave his family and the outside world for this contemplative life.
