Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Wild Strawberries

Isak Borg, 78, has been a physician for 50 years, and is about to receive an award from Lund University for this achievement. Before leaving, he has a frightening dream about his own mortality, and falls into grave doubts about the true worth of his life. His daughter-in-law Marianne, estranged from his son Evald, decides to ride with him from Stockholm to Lund. During the trip Isak visits his place of birth, picks up a battling married couple stranded by a car crash, meets a lovely young hitchhiker who reminds him of his first love Sara (both parts are played by Andersson), and comes to terms with his heretofore cold and solitary life. The film also depicts the development of his inner life through other dreams. Ingmar Bergman wrote and directed this film in 1957. Veteran Swedish film director Sjostrom does a magnificent acting job in the lead role; the supporting women are excellent; and young Max von Sydow may be glimpsed as a gas station attendant. Slow, stately, and very thought-provoking.

WILD STRAWBERRIES is a movie written and directed by Ingmar Bergman in 1957. Academy Award in the Best Screenplay Written directly for the Screen category. Golden Berlin Bear for Ingmar Bergman.

Isak Borg is 76 years old. He has lived a self-centered life and stays now alone with Agda, an old servant. In the company of Marianne, his daughter-in-law, he decides to drive through the country. This journey through swedish forests will also be a journey through memories for the old man. A couple of hitch-hikers he accepts to give a lift to makes him remember of his childhood, when he was in love with his cousin Sara. A frank Marianne tells him that in fact noboby loves him because of his coldness, even his son is hating him. When Isak borg finally arrives at Lund, he will be changed and ready to live a new life or... to die.

Superb movie from the swedish Master. Bibi Andersson plays two characters. A must.
