Save for their songs and a brief appearance at the very end, the Beatles had very little to do with the making of "Yellow Submarine." It isn't even their voices doing the characters in the story. Still, the 1968 animated feature managed to capture the joyful, playful spirit that was the best of the Beatles, in a fanciful tale about a lovely land beneath the sea that is invaded by the army of the Blue Meanies and must be rescued by the Beatles and their music. Lots of beguiling graphics, silly puns (Erich Segal was one of the co-authors of the script), and terrific songs. It will make you feel great.
