Detailed plot synopsis reviews of You Were Never Lovelier

Set in Argentina, this film stars Rita Hayworth as the daughter of wealthy and powerful Mr. Acuņa, and Fred Astaire as a New York dancer trying to get a job as a performer at Mr. Acuņa's hotel. Beautiful Maria Acuņa (Rita Hayworth) has yet to show interest in any man, which upsets her two younger sisters since Mr. Acuņa insists that his daughters be married in order according to their age. Mr. Acuņa in particular despairs of his daughter's lack of suitors, so he decides to construct one for her. He sends her flowers and romantic notes in hopes that they will thaw Maria's heart and elicit romantic feelings for her mysterious beau. But then a mix-up occurs and Mr. Acuņa is forced to produce a real suitor for his daughter. He hires Robert Davis (Astaire), agreeing to give him a contract to perform at his hotel, if Robert can convince his daughter that he is a terrible suitor so that she loses interest in him and finds someone more suitable. However, despite Mr. Acuņa's efforts, Maria starts to fall in love with Robert, and Robert begins to fall in love with Maria. But when Maria discovers the deception, she becomes furious and Robert decides to do whatever it takes to win her back.
