This is a story of birds protecting their territory from invasion by alligators This is the story of Kai, a bird who lives with his father in a secluded location. Kai does not understand his father's animosity towards strangers and ends up following other birds to Zambezia (a birds' city). In his attempt to follow his son, Tendal (Kai's father) is captured by an alligator. The alligator colludes with the Marabou storks who are outcasts in the bird kingdom to invade and destroy Zambezia.

Kai, after his arrival in Zambezia, joins the hurricanes, a group of falcons tasked with protecting the island. Unknown to him, his parents were the founders of the group and his mother was killed during an invasion while she was trying to fight back. As a result of the heartbreak, his father left the Island and had vowed never to go back there. The marabou stocks take weaver birds captive to help them build a bridge for the alligator.
Kai, out of his bravery manages to get the information, rescues his father and the weaver birds but he is late since the bridge is already complete. The Marabou stocks mount it on the Island and a group of alligators begin crossing to Zambezia, but the birds manage to cut the bridge before they get there.
Best part of story, including ending:
I like this story because it shows that stringent rules are not always the best especially in war
Best scene in story:
My favorite scene is when Zoe rescues the hurricanes from the trap because since initially they thought she was just a girl
Opinion about the main character:
I like the courage and determination in in Kai, that saves the whole island from destruction.
