Zandalee (Anderson) is bored with her marriage to poet turned corporate executive Thierry (Reinhold). When an old friend of Thierry's, the egotistical and brooding artist Johnny (Cage), comes to stay with the couple, Zandalee soon falls prey to his charms and the two become enbroiled in a sensuous and passionate not to mention destructive affair that threatens to consume them both. The steamy days and stunning nights set against the backdrop of New Orleans, make for plenty of desire and red hot intensity. However desire turns to hatred and loathing for the lovers when Thierry finds out about the affair and pits his wife against his friend, causing them to turn on one another. He sets out to destroy them both. Johnny retaliates by taunting Zandalee about her foolish misplaced sense of devotion to her dull husband and continues to pursue her relentlessly. Finally Zandalee must choose between the two men- her husband or her lover- and the choice proves not to be an easy one.
