Well, Matilda isn't just treated as a dangerous witch, she is one, but you can't judge the way females are regarded in a book based on one character. The Bleeding Nun is also an evil figure , but Elvira and Antonia aren't seductive witches in the slightest. Elvira is an overprotective mother figure, Antonia is frail and weak, and their servants are just stupid. As for Agnes, I see her as simply being of a victim of society.
