| Plot Summary of Defy Not the Heart |
"Lady Reina is in trouble because he father died in the crusades without settling her marriage plans. Now she is getting attacked by men who want to marry her for her wealth and estates. When she is taken captive by the mercenary knight Ranulf, she strikes a bargain with him. Instead of taking her to the despicable old Lord Rothwell, she will agree to marry Ranulf. He is handsome beyond belief and a giant of a man who she thinks can protect her lands.
Ranulf is illegitimate, has suffered from an affair with a selfish well born beauty and wants to avoid an obvious lady like Reina. And besides, she is too tiny and bossy. But the offer proves more than he can resist and he soon finds he wants to take Reina to bed as often as possible. But he is a big brute and his new wife tells him she wants him to pleasure her.
