Plot Summary of Toxin
"This is a very thrilling book, which takes a lot of interesting twists and turns. The medical enthused person would love reading this book!"
Meredith Twaites, Resident Scholar

"With all the publicity about the e-coli virus, this book will make you afraid to nibble on that fast-food buger! (I STILL can't even think of eating one without shivering after reading this little gem of Dr. Cook's.) It is a fun scary book for a rainy week-end!"
Sharon Berry, Resident Scholar

"After reading this book it was hard for me to eat any type of meat for awhile. Robin Cook has a way of unlocking the readers feelings about the subject to bring out the emotion. I was always aware of E. coli, but this book has definitely hieghtened my awareness. Great Job Dr. Cook!"
Scott Pickle, Ph.D., Resident Scholar

"TOXIN is an exciting and disturbing novel in which Robin Cook theorizes that the presence of the deadly "bug" "e-coli" in hamburger may be at least, partially caused by several factors, most of which can be chalked up to greed and the need to make things cheaper in a world of rising costs.

Descriptions of a slaughter house in TOXIN, are, by themselves, a convincing argument for vegetarianism.

"This is a book about Ecoli and a doctor's fight to get to the bottom of where it came from after his child dies from the disease/virus. Finding many road blocks to the answers he seeks, the doctor then resorts to finding things on his own. The USDA is of no help as he finds out there is a big cover up on their part."
Cristal Nash, Resident Scholar

"The book Toxin is an exciting medical thriller. It begins with how the meat industry is not very effective in their inspection of meat. This causes Dr. Kim Reggis' daughter to become sick when she eats an infected hamburger. The story then ensues in Kim Reggis trying to find out as much as he can about the toxin that killed his daughter. This part of the story is long drawn out and down right boring. The plot doesn't really reach a climax after Kim's daughter dies. "
Taylor R, Resident Scholar

"Recently divorced Dr Kim Reggis is proud to have his precocious daughter Becky with him. Being a father to a single daughter, he obviously loved her like anything.
One day, Kim and his daughter went out to have a treat of burger and fries at Onion Ring( a fast food chain ). The next day, Becky complained to her father of abdominal cramps and diahorrea. Kim assumed it as a normal food-poisoning incidence, and treated her daughter with over-the-counter diahorrea drugs. But, Becky's condition grew worse day by day. Finally, she had to be taken to a specialist doctor, who told Kim and his ex-wife to admit Becky to the hospital. Becky had been poisoned by a very poisonous strain of E.coli which led to a slow detorioration of Becky's health. The strain of E.coli was so strong, that it led to multiple organ failure. This led to Becky's death.
The death of Becky came like a blow to Kim and his ex-wife. So, Kim decided to pay a visit to Onion Ring, and he found out that the ham-burger patty consumed by his daughter was heavily infected by E.coli. This infuriated him, and he found out the company which supplied the meat to Onion Ring. Under an alias, Kim started working in the meat company with the help of his ex-wife. Kim is not aware that the company has hired an hit-man in order to get rid of him, and to clear the chapter about the food-poisoning of Becky, because this will only affect them in the future. But, Kim fights his own life for the sake of his daughter and also other children, who may lose their lives by this E.coli strain.Battling against all odds and being a wanted fugitive, he finally manages to wage a strict action against the meat company."
