The 13th Warrior Movie Review Summary

Actors: Antonio Banderas, Vladimir Kulich, Dennis Storhoi

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The 13th Warrior

The 13th Warrior strives to combine the Old English story of Beowulf with Michael Crichton's book, The Eaters of the Dead. An exiled Arab poet, portrayed by Antonio Banderas, finds himself in the company of twelve Vikings, as they return to Scandinavia in order to defeat an un-named enemy threatening the existence of a Scandinavian village/kingdom. Banderas portrays Ahmed Ibn Fadhlan, who learns what sacrifice is, and what life is really about, in the company of the Vikings, whose heroism "rubs off" on him, helping him to become truly a genuine man. Though there are technical errors in this film, such as armor that does not belong to the time period, the film describes the meeting of two cultures: Scandinavian-Viking, and Arabic, one polytheistic (Viking), and the other mono-theistic (Arabic). By the end of the movie, after the spilling of a lot of blood, the sweating of much sweat, and the final death of a major character, Ahmed Ibn Fadhlan, returns home to Baghdad, wiser, less self centered.
