Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Righteous Kill

At the beginning of the movie, a police forensics team is watching a video taped "confession" of Detective David "Turk" Fisk (aka the Poetry Boy killer), played by Robert De Niro. David explains on the tape that he has looked up to his partner of 30 years, Tom "Rooster" Cowan, played by Al Pacino and how Tom is the perfect model of how any great detective should be.

This narrative sets up the plot of the film, which starts with the Poetry Boy killer's tenth victim. The killer's calling card is writing short poems for the criminals he murders and leaving the verses with the victims for the authorities to find. At this crime scene, Rooster and Turk are joined by three inexperienced detectives: Corelli (Carla Guigino)who is Perez's ex-girlfriend now living with Turk, Perez (John Leguizamo)and Riley (Donnie Wahlberg).

The Poetry Boy murders continue with the deaths of a Catholic priest/child molester, believed to have abused the killer's own children and an acquitted rapist that the system failed. When the killer's next victim, a Russian mobster, survives, he seeks revenge by shooting at Detective Perez's home and raping Corelli, presumably for their failure to stop the killer.

Believing that someone with extreme shooting skills and a law enforcement background is the likely perpetrator, Perez and Riley examine psych evaluations and immediately suspect Turk as the Poetry Boy killer. Setting up a meeting with a known drug dealer that the killer would be sure to bless with a bullet and some prose, Turk surprises the detectives by having the wrong weapon and inappropriate poem. After the detectives leave the scene, an angry Rooster kills the dealer, but drops his journal at the site of the encounter.

When Turk stumbles upon the journal, he reads that Rooster has declared the drug dealer as the killer's fourteenth victim. Rooster, still at the crime scene, puts Turk in front of a camera with the journal and forces him to recite what is written. It is obvious at this point that Pacino's "Rooster" is the Poetry Boy killer, having lost his faith in the justice system when Turk planted evidence at an acquitted child molester's home, thus convicting him. After that, Rooster felt it was his job to make sure justice was done.
Best part of story, including ending: I enjoyed the symbolism with the poems at the crime scenes. This made for a unique and suspenseful twist as the plot progressed.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was the confrontation between De Niro and Pacino's characters at the end of the film. Watching two brilliant actors that played their roles so well in this movie locked in a final showdown, winner take all made for a tension driven, but fulfilling end to the main storyline.

Opinion about the main character: Al Pacino's "Rooster" was a master manipulator and was able to disguise his dark side, even despite poor performance evaluations. De Niro's "Turk" was the good to counter Pacino's bad and showed the tension and turmoil that being thrown into the middle of a toxic relationship can cause.

Police detectives Turk and Rooster must catch a the Poetry Boy killer who is killing criminals. They visit the scene of a dead body and link it to the Poetry Boy killer because they find a poem on the body. The Poetry Boy attempts to kill another victim but fails. The other detective believe that Turk is the Poetry Boy killer because of his psych skills. So they secretly set up Turk to meet the drug dealer Spider to see if he'll kill him. However, Turk does not kill him, proving that he is not the killer. After Turk leaves, Rooster kills Spider. Turk finds and reads Rooster's journal. Rooster begins recording Turk and tells him to read the journal.
Best part of story, including ending: What I like about this story was that the cop was the killer and it was a big twist.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was when Turk stumbles across Roosters journal and finds out what's going on.
