The family in this movie is made of an ensemble cast that includes Robert De Niro playing Don, an aritist, who was married to Ellie (played by Diane Keaton). They had two children together, Lyla (played by Katherine Heigl) and Jared (played by Topher Grace) plus they adopted a boy from South American named Alejandro (played by Ben Barnes). After many years of marriage, they got divorced. Now Alejandro is bringing his fiancée' Missy (played by Amanda Seyfried) back home so that they can have a big family wedding at the family home. Since Don and Ellie are divorced, Don now lives in the home with his girlfriend, Bebe (played by Susan Sarandon).

Ellie arrives at the home without warning, let's herself in. Don and his girlfriend Bebe come back, but Ellie does not notice this. Ellie walks into the kitchen unannounced and surprises Don, who is giving oral sex to Bebe on the kitchen counter. This uncomfortable situation is made worse because Bebe used to be Ellie's best friend before she divorced Don. There is still a lot of tension between the two women about what happened.
Robin Williams plays the priest that coaches Alejandro and Missy about married life and how to prepare for their wedding. Alejandro's biological mother is coming from Columbia just for the wedding. It will be her first time in the USA to meet the entire American family. She is a devout catholic which would not be able to accept that Don and Ellie are divorced so Alejandro pleads with them to pretend to be married just for the wedding so as not to upset his natural mother.
Don and Ellie reluctantly go along with the charade. Bebe storms out, then plots to make them both as uncomfortable as possible when she suddenly shows up as a waitress in a restaurant to spy on them and the mother from Columbia.
Alejandro's mother, named Madonna (played by Patricia Rae) also brings her daughter Nuria (played by Ana Ayora). Nuria is stunningly beautiful and a believer in freely expressing herself sexually. She swims nude in front of Jared knowing it will excite him. During all these hijinks, Jared confesses to Nuria he is still a virgin. She teases him, even going so far as to masturbate him under the table at the restaurant, which others can see is happening.
When is it time for the wedding, Bebe shows up as the caterer making Don and Ellie even more uncomfortable because they fell into love a bit again and had loud make-up sex earlier in the morning, that the entire house could hear was going on. When Don has too much to drink he confesses to Bebe that he had sex with Ellie. Bebe punches him. After this, Bebe pretends to forgive Ellie but then tells everyone that Ellie had sex with Missy's father while she was married with Don. From the truth-telling prompting, Missy's mother confesses to her lesbian tendencies and her attraction to both Ellie and Bebe. In the melee, Alejandro and Missy sneak off with the priest because all they really want to do is get married, which they do. Nuria gives in and has full sex with Jared, breaking his virginity. Don realizes it is Bebe he really loves and ask her to marry him in front of all the others. She forgives him, accepts his proposal, and they get married on the spot making use of the set-up for the wedding that Alejandro and Missy no longer need. After all this fighting and confusion, making love and making up, there is only one confession that remains at the end. It comes from Alejandro's mother, Madonna.
Best part of story, including ending:
The cast was terrific and some of the comedic moments were very funny, but somehow the entire film missed the mark, felt a bit overly-contrived and not that special.

The hand-job given by Nuria to Jared under the table at the restaurant.
Opinion about the main character:
Don cheats on his girlfriend Bebe too easily. He should have stood up for her more in the beginning of the movie. By the end, he realizes this serious mistake and finally does the right thing by her.
