Aron (James Franco) goes into the Utah canyons alone on a nature hike. He meets two women hikers and convince them to go on another trail with him. They walk through gorgeous wind carved alleys and canyons, and go swimming in a cavern pool. They invite him to an upcoming party, then they part ways. As Aron navigates through more canyons, he slips into one, and a rock drops down after him, trapping his right arm. He cries for help, but he is alone, and miles from anyone. With his videocam, he starts journalling his ordeal. He surveys his belongings and starts to ration his food and water. With a pocketknife, he starts hitting the rock, hoping it would break into pieces, but to no avail. As he lays there hopeless, he starts getting hallucinations, moments from his past, his loved ones, and a girl he once loved. In a desperate move and determined to live, he severs his arm with the knife. Weak, he rapels down a ravine and hikes until a family of hikers find him.

Best part of story, including ending:
It shows the strength and tenacity of the human spirit.
Best scene in story:
When he walked into the most beautiful, isolated places and saw rock formations that looked like they were from another world.
Opinion about the main character:
That Aron could still find humor in his dire situation.
