Unhappy big-firm lawyer Roger Cobb (Martin) gets assigned rich client Edwina Cutler (Tomlin). She has been sickly all her life and is now dying. However, there is a mishap during the transference, and Edwina ends up sharing Roger's body; she controls his right side, he his left. Meanwhile, Terry never believed the transfer was possible (she was just after Edwina's wealth) and fights Roger's attempts to complete it as planned. After Roger foils her attempt to murder him (in front of witnesses), she faces life in prison as a three-time loser. She agrees to let Edwina have her body, while she is transferred into her favorite horse.
Best part of story, including ending:
The fantasy aspect doesn't overwhelm what is really a warm romantic comedy.
Best scene in story:
When Edwina first inhabits Roger's body, they have trouble coordinating their actions, especially when Roger has to go to the bathroom. Hilarious.
Opinion about the main character:
I'm not a big fan of physical comedy, but Steve Martin does a brilliant job of creating the funny, funny illusion of two people with very different personalities in the same body.
