Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Campaign

In this hilarious political comedy, Cam Brady has been a North Carolina congressman unopposed for several terms, which has given him quite a hilariously huge ego. Two corrupt businessman want someone to beat him in the next election, so they can sell the city's land to China. They approach Marty Huggins, a sweet but dumb tour guide in a small town. Cam attacks Marty mercilessly early on, but the businessmen hire a wicked campaign manager for Marty, and from there, the games begin. Marty begins cleaning up his act and outsmarting Cam, which infuriates him. Cam tries to punch Marty, but accidentally punches a baby, which then becomes a staple in Marty's political attacks. Marty also questions Cam's religious background, asking him to recite the Lord's Prayer in public, which he screws up miserably. Cam tries outright lying in his attempts to bring down Marty, running a series of ads that associate Marty with terrorist groups. Cam tries to clean up the campaign, meeting Marty privately in hopes of making the election about the issues instead... but at the urging of his campaign manager, Marty further humiliates Cam by getting him arrested for drunk driving. When Cam vows revenge and makes a sex tape with Marty's wife, both Marty and Cam's worlds are rocked. Cam is left without a campaign manager, Marty is left without a family, and both of them are more determined than ever down the stretch to emerge victorious.

Best part of story, including ending: Political campaigns get so nasty nowadays that it was fun to see a movie take that truth to the Nth degree and blow it up to silly extremes.

Best scene in story: Will Ferrell is terrific when needing to play the know-nothing blowhard, so the scene in which he horribly butchers the Lord's Prayer is a highlight.

Opinion about the main character: Cam is detestable, but he meant well when he got into politics, and we can see the potential for him to do something right for the people in his constituency again. Plus, Will Ferrell is a terrific comedic actor.
