Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Da Vinci Code

In this fictional movie, Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is a famed Harvard symbologist who's in Paris for a lecture. He is approached by the French police and is brought to a gruesome murder scene at the Louvre. Robert sees the body of Sauniere, laid out in a peculiar manner, which Robert interprets as his way of leaving clues. Meanwhile, Silas, an albino monk who is Sauniere's murderer calls a mysterious "Teacher," and tells him that he was able to get the location of the "keystone" from Sauniere. Sophie (Audrey Tautou), a police cryptologist arrives at the Louvre, and warns Robert that he is the prime suspect in the murder since an erased message on the floor was left implicating his name. Sophie, who is the estranged granddaughter of Sauniere thinks Sauniere meant for both to meet to solve a bigger mystery. Both are led to Da Vinci paintings, where they retrieve a key with a fleur-de-lis. They elude the police and proceed to a Swiss bank address (which was inscribed on the key), and are led to a safety deposit box. In the box is a cryptex, a coded container which contains a small piece of paper inside. When their location is compromised, they escape with the help of the bank manager Vernet, who later demands for the cryptex. Robert and Sophie disarm him and escape. They go to Leigh Teabing (Ian McKellen), a Holy Grail scholar and ask for his help in decoding the cryptex. Leigh then lectures them about the Priory of Scion, a secret society tasked to protect the descendants of Jesus. He also tells them that the Holy Grail isn't really a cup, but Mary Magdalene, believed to be Jesus' wife who was with child. Leigh tells them that Sauniere was an elite member of the Priory. Silas arrives and a struggle occurs. They knock him out, and with the police in pursuit, fly to London to the next clue. They eventually end up in Westminster Abbey, and Leigh is revealed as the "Teacher." Robert throws the cryptex and it breaks much to Leigh's anger. Leigh is detained by police, while Robert tells Sophie that he broke the code before he destroyed the cryptex. They go to Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, where Magdalene's tomb previously laid. Sophie discovers that she is the last descendant of Jesus and that the Catholic church was making sure that such a controversy would never surface. Langdon returns to Paris, and has an epiphany. He goes back to the Louvre and from the last clues discerns that it is the final resting place of Mary Magdalene.

Best scene in story: When the character Sophie learns that she is the last descendant of Jesus Christ.

Opinion about the main character: Langdon seems out of place in the action scenes since he's a middle-aged scholar.
