Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Rock of Ages

Sherrie is a small-town girl from Oklahoma who hops onto a bus to Los Angeles with a suitcase and a dream: to become a famous singer. She arrives outside of the famous Bourbon Room, but sure enough, upon arrival to the big city, her suitcase is immediately stolen, along with all of her beloved rock records. Drew, a bartender at the Bourbon Room, witnesses the robbery and tries to make her feel better. He offers to buy her some new albums, and upon hearing about her full situation, he gets her a job waiting tables at the Bourbon Room. Meanwhile, Dennis, the Bourbon Room's owner, laments his unpaid taxes and fears that unless he can raise a great deal of money, the most famous rock and roll bar in Los Angeles will be no more. He decides to book the world-famous Stacee Jaxx and his band Arsenal; Jaxx is a famous diva, but he got his start at the Bourbon Room, and it would certainly be a draw capable of bringing in lots of money. The wife of the mayor, however, despises Arsenal's profane and obscene music, and she threatens to shut down the rock and roll for good. When Jaxx's manager hears Drew sing, he offers to make him rich and famous, and when Drew mistakenly thinks Sherrie hooked up with Jaxx, he breaks up with her and accepts the manager's contract offer. However, the music industry isn't what it's cracked up to be, and Drew and Sherrie must find a way to get back together and save rock and roll in Los Angeles once and for all.

Best part of story, including ending: It's likable enough, with plenty of amusing musical numbers, but the run time is incredibly long for a movie that, at the end of the day, is little more than a lark.

Best scene in story: Tom Cruise singing "Wanted Dead or Alive," because you'd be surprised what a rock star Tom Cruise can be (and what a killer voice he has) until you see this.

Opinion about the main character: Sherrie is a charming young woman with an eager smile and wide eyes, but she has no control over any of the events of the film, and thus it's really hard to care.
