One Day follows the lives of Dexter Meyhew and Emma Morley visiting them on the anniversary of the day they met, 15 July, over a 20 year period. Meeting for the first time at their University graduation, through the years Emma and Dexter become best friends. During their twenties, Dexter becomes a famous t.v. personality who struggles with alcohol and drugs (a coping method for dealing with the declining health of his mother) and Emma struggles with finding a purpose. Over the course of their twenties, their friendship starts to deteriorate and finally fall apart.

Dexter (now in his early thirties) is trying to rebuild his life after losing his job as a t.v. presenter. Emma, who has been a teacher for the past few years, is stuck in a relationship with a man she does not love. The two reconcile at the wedding of an old college friend, where Dexter tells Emma that he is going to be married and has a child on the way. Emma (now mid thirties) has become a successful children's author and has moved to Paris to work on her writing. Meanwhile Dexter is trying to get away from his divorce and travels to Paris to meet Emma.
The end of the move continues to focus on Emma and Dexter and the ideas of love and loss, with some truly heartbreaking moments.
Best part of story, including ending:
The movie is more realistic about life and about romance. It's not a typical romantic comedy and doesn't show that life necessarily has a happy ever after.
Best scene in story:
The scene where Emma and Dexter go on holiday together is pretty funny. There are some great touching moments that show the depth of their feelings early on and it's nicely mixed with humor.
Opinion about the main character:
Emma, at first, is too idealistic and can be a little annoying. Dexter, starts of as womanizing prick and turns more likable as the story progresses.
