Darkfever is the first novel of the Fever Series by the author Karen Marie Moning. It can surely be considered as an ideal reading for the readers who have a quest for fantasy, suspense and fiction.

The main character of the novel is MacKayla Lane or "Mac", a beautiful lady from Georgia, working in a bartender. She has friends and a decent job too. Her life seems absolutely normal until she gets aware of her sister's murder. Her sister Alina who's studying in Ireland has been murdered. The police have no clues in this regard and therefore, the case remains unresolved.
MacKayla isn't satisfied at all with this unusually shocking incident and therefore she quickly decides to quit her job, empties her bank account and leaves for Ireland in-order to solve the mystery of murder herself. (Mac has a mysterious and horrifying voicemail from her sister that clues her that someone was threatening her, so that's another reason she gets compelled to probe further into the matter).
She wants to reveal the truth but isn't aware of the fact about the whole new world of darkness and danger in which none of the players can be trusted or believed. There's more evil in the world than she could have ever imagined and everything she believes until now seems totally doubtful and uncertain.
Mac is an emotionally weak and a bit shallow but ambitious at the same time, yet she was quite looks-conscious; as her main focus all through the novel remains her appearance, nail polish color, dresses she has to wear, her hair and make-up etc.
Mac visits a bookstore owned by Barrons and gets drawn into the intrigue & horror of the evil quietly taking over Dublin. There she comes across Mr. Jerricho Barrons who informs her of a supernatural world of fairies and the oncoming and unknown-to-human war between the & Mankind. He persuades Mac that it's the humanoid mystical creature that has caused the death of her sister. He offers her protection and solace in the chaotic and danger-filled city of Dublin.
Later, she fells in into love with one of the Fae (the mystical creature) who earlier used Mac's sister in the search for the Sinsar Dubh, a Dark Hallow authored by the Dark King of the unseelie. She became a sidhe-seer (i.e. she became capable of seeing Fae, unlike most humans).
The wall between Fae and human realms appears to fail and evil starts moving into our world. Not all of the Fae are evil but they are not human and their empire does not belong to our world either.
The writer does a good job of building a world full of multiple complex story lines and then weaves them all together in a manner that it will keep a kind of suspense live till the end.

Best scene in story:
When Mac got lost in the dark streets, and suddenly she comes across Barrons Books that looked like an oasis flooded in light.
Opinion about the main character:
Since it's a series therefore, the questions remain unanswered, i.e. will she ever find her sister's murderer and the much needed satisfaction of revenge?
