Somerset is a historic fiction that begins in the Antebellum South and covers three generations. The novel begins in South Carolina in the 1830s where we are introduced to three wealthy plantation owning families. During the 1830's Texas was a turbulent place of the unknown. The Texas fight for freedom was in its early stages. Silas must decide on which route to take. He establishes himself in Texas and the remainder of the book will follow his family throughout 100 years of turmoil and opportunity.

The characters of this book often change. The settings activities and events also change unexpectedly. The novel journeys through the 1800s from the Texas Revolution into the Civil War and the wild west. A true historical novel that adds a little bit of everything; romance, conflict, family, poverty and wealth.
Best part of story, including ending: I like how Silas is an opportunist, and he always tries to turn a bad situation into something better.

Best scene in story: The beginning of the book as it talks about an age gone with the wind the Antebellum South.

Opinion about the main character: I like the main characters perseverance.
