Julie Powell (Amy Adams) is an aspiring writer, who has a job at a call center on the side, that she doesn't like very much. To do something she does enjoy, she decides to cook every recipe in the cookbook by Julia Child (Meryl Streep): Mastering the Art of French Cooking, over the course of a year. To motivate herself and document her progress, Julie writes a blog about it.

The story of Julie in Queens in the early 2000s is alternated with the story of Julia in Paris in the 1950s, where she attends the cooks' school Le Cordon Bleu to learn about French cooking and works on a book about it for American housewives with two other women.
In the end, Julie's blog gets to be eatured in an article in The New York Times. After that her project starts to get attention from journalists, literary agents, and publishers. She even receives a response from Julia herself, although that's is not a positive one. Julia believes she is trying to earn money over her back.
The last shot shows Julie visiting Julia's kitchen at the Smithsonian and Julia in the same kitchen, receiving a first print of her cookbook.
Best part of story, including ending:
It's chronicles the lives of two women that have similar challenges to deal with in different places and different times.
Best scene in story:
Where Julie fails numerous times to get a recipe right but hangs in there.
Opinion about the main character:
To come up with an idea like that and make it a success.
